Merry Christmas from the Yankee Homestead!

It’s not possible, for various reasons, to invite each of you to our home during this holiday season, so I thought I’d bring our home to you.

Today’s post is a mini-tour of our Christmas cheer.  Some of our decorations didn’t even make it out of their boxes this year, but we did manage to “Christmas-fy” most of the house to some degree.

Let’s start at the back door, where most folks enter our house.  Back door guests are best!

The first thing you’ll see is our Nature Display, with added Christmas adornments.

Also in this area is our Framed Monogram Shutter.  I wanted to do more to jazz up this spot, but it just never happened. 🙂  Sometimes “good enough” has to be good enough!

The Dining Room…

Notice the Silver Noel Tray.

These wreaths flank the china hutch.

Another unfinished spot on top of the dining room cabinet…

I kept meaning to put fresh greenery in the pitcher and silver bucket, but once again, it never happened.  So just imagine some fresh pine branches sticking up right there…

And here is our Christmas Card Shutter, which has filled up considerably since I snapped this picture last week…

And of course, our seasonal book display.

In the Play Room, the boys love to decorate “their” window with festive window clings, like this nativity set.

The Living Room…

Our tree is squeezed between the mantel and the front door.

I love to decorate the mantel with vintage Christmas books.  The old chicken feeder came from my dad’s barn, along with the cool door hanging on the wall above.

The piano lives in the Living Room, too.  Here it is…

More old Christmas books in the Living Room…

Remember Older Brother’s drawing of Thankful Mary from last year?  We framed it, tucked it away for Christmas, and were so excited to pull it out and find a good spot for it this year.

This little display occupies a shelf at the bottom of the stairs.

Shall we head upstairs?

The upstairs landing…

We put only a few decorations upstairs: finger tip towels in the bathroom, and each boy has a little tree in his room.

Older Brother’s tree…

Little Brother’s tree:

Back downtstairs, the Powder Room holds one of my very favorite Christmas decorations–a small book of Christmas paintings by Norman Rockwell, open to the Dear Jesus page.

And in the Guest Bath, one of my favorite Christmasy finger tip towels. 🙂

And last, but not least, I’ll leave you with this reminder of what Christmas is all about.

This sign stays up all year.  At Christmastime, I frame it with a festive berry garland, which always reminds me of the crown of thorns.  The red berries remind me of drops of blood, shed for me by the little Boy Child, all grown up into a man–a perfect man, sent by His Father’s great grace to save a wretch like me.

O come let us adore Him!

Kathy–We do have the Three Trees book. Our family enjoys it at Easter time (See Favorite Children’s Books for Easter), but I can see how it would be excellent to read at Christmas, too!
