Have you heard the news?  Walmart will be introducing a new line of affordable organic products at select stores nationwide.  The mega retailer is joining forces with ex-Whole-Foods brand Wild Oats to offer a variety of organics at Walmart’s typical low prices.

At first, the line will include mostly canned goods, spices and condiments, but may eventually expand to offer fresh dairy and produce.

I don’t typically shop at Walmart, but this is still good news.  As the market for organics continues to grow, chances are good that prices will come down across the board.  I’d love to see more affordable organics available to a wider demographic, wouldn’t you?

So will those be in BPA Free cans? Will they be products from the USA or from China and other countries? Is it going to be like the big Whole foods market that has a lot of organic imports that we have no idea of the regulations? It worries me that a cheap store like Walmart is going to have organic food, it may give many a false sense of security. I have no reason to believe it will be of any quality since so little is in that store and our trust in the organic label means very little now anyways.

Sally–I share your concerns, and personally don’t even shop at Walmart. In general, though, I think it’s a positive development and demonstrates the growing market for organic products.
