Burger Bowls with Fries and House Sauce
If there’s one meal my family never complains about, it’s these Burger Bowls. They check every box: hearty, fresh, customizable, and fast. Also gluten-free and Paleo-friendly! If I hustle, I can have everything ready in about 30 minutes, which makes this a lifesaver on busy evenings.
Because the beef cooks quickly, the key is starting the fries first. My order of operations is simple: fries into the oven, beef on the stove, and while everything cooks, the house sauce comes together and the veggies get prepped. Easy.
Another reason we love these Burger Bowls is the flexibility. Everyone builds their own bowl just how they like it. More fries, less meat, extra pickles (my personal favorite), or skip the tomatoes entirely — it all works. I personally love every single ingredient piled high, but there are some in my family who prefer a simpler version.
I also tend to make these when our homegrown tomatoes are in season, usually July through November. It’s one of those meals we genuinely look forward to all year long.
Ingredients for Burger Bowls
Ground beef
Homegrown ground beef is our top choice. When that’s not available, I always recommend sourcing local, pasture-raised beef for the best flavor and nutrition.
Organic season salt
Adds simple, savory flavor to both the burgers and fries. Use your favorite season salt or apply code KEEPITREAL for 15% off your order of my favorite unrefined sea salt, including this tasty organic season salt, and no-junk electrolytes.
Shredded lettuce
Romaine is my go-to for plenty of crunch, but any crisp lettuce works depending on what you have on hand.
Diced tomatoes
Fresh, juicy tomatoes brighten the whole bowl. Homegrown in-season tomatoes truly shine here.
Diced dill pickles
Crunchy dill pickles add that classic burger flavor. This is my favorite (fermented!) store-bought brand as well as my homemade pickles recipe.
Potatoes
Plan on roughly one potato per person. These get sliced into simple oven fries. Russets or Yukon Gold work well, but use whatever you’ve got on hand.
Avocado oil
Helps the fries crisp up beautifully in the oven. Choose a clean brand like this one.
Mayonnaise
I typically use homemade mayo for the house sauce, but store-bought works fine too.
Ketchup
Adds a touch of classic burger sweetness and tang to the house sauce. Be sure to source a clean brand or even homemade!
Worcestershire sauce
Adds depth and that classic burger-joint flavor to the sauce.
Paprika
Provides mild warmth and color.
Fresh garlic clove
A small amount goes a long way in the house sauce.

How to Make Burger Bowls
Start by getting the fries into the oven first, since they take the longest. Preheat the oven to 400°F (convection if you have it). Slice the potatoes lengthwise, then cut into medium-thin fries. Toss them in a large bowl with avocado oil and seasoned salt, then spread on a baking sheet and bake until golden and crisp, about 20 minutes.
While the fries cook, heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Remove the ground beef from the packaging while keeping it intact. Lay it across your open palm, season the exposed side, then place it seasoned-side down into the hot skillet. Season the top side and cook until roughly halfway done.
Flip beef slabs with a spatula, then use the spatula to slice the beef into 4–6 sections. Continue cooking until it reaches your preferred doneness.
As the beef finishes, quickly stir together the house sauce by combining mayo, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and a minced garlic clove. Adjust to taste.
Next, prep the fresh toppings. Shred the lettuce, dice the tomatoes, and chop the pickles so everything is ready for quick assembly. Having the veggies prepped and waiting makes these Burger Bowls come together fast.
Finally, assemble the Burger Bowls. Start with a generous layer of shredded lettuce, add one or two sections of the cooked beef, sprinkle on diced tomatoes and pickles, add a serving of hot fries, and drizzle with house sauce.
Serve immediately while everything is warm and crisp. Laying everything out buffet style allows each person to customize his or her bowl to personal perfection.
