Don’t you just love place card holders?

The possibilities are endless…use them to label food dishes, announce a special message, provide instructions, display photos, add flair to home decor, and of course, to bear the name of a loved one on the dinner table.

I’d been on the hunt for affordable rustic place card holders and couldn’t seem to find just what I was looking for until I came across this great DIY idea on the world wide web.

The process was simple and I’ve loved the results.  Act now, and yours will be ready for the upcoming holiday season!

Rustic DIY Place Card Holders

You Will Need:

• Metal craft wire in your desired finish–I found mine at Hobby Lobby
  

  • Save
• Something round–I used a 15 ml bottle of essential oil.
• Wooden spools–Mine came from etsy.  Tip: search for “vintage wooden spools” or look for unfinished spools and create a vintage look yourself with stain.  There are lots of options!
• Hot glue & gun–Pay no attention to the tacky glue in the photos below.  It did not hold; in the end, I had to add hot glue to each spool.  The hot glue has held up for a few years now!

Instructions:

1. Plug in your glue gun.
2. Wrap the wire around your round object several times until it looks the way you want it.  I wrapped mine three times.
   

   • Save
3. Cut the wire, leaving a tail long enough to be glued securely into your wooden spool.
   

   • Save
4. Insert the wire tail into the wooden spool.
5. Use the glue gun to drop some hot glue into the hole of the spool.  Hold the wire in place until the glue has hardened a bit.
   

   • Save
6. Repeat with remaining spools.
   

   • Save
7. Leave spools undisturbed until the glue is completely cool and hard.
