Don’t you just love place card holders?
The possibilities are endless…use them to label food dishes, announceĀ a special message, provide instructions, display photos, add flair to home decor, and of course, to bear the name of a loved one on the dinner table.
The process was simple and I’ve loved the results. Ā Act now, and yours will be ready for the upcoming holiday season!
Rustic DIY Place Card Holders
You Will Need:
- Metal craft wire in your desired finish–I found mine at Hobby Lobby
- Something round–I used a 15 ml bottle of essential oil.
- Wooden spools–Mine came from etsy. Ā Tip: search for “vintage wooden spools” or look for unfinished spools and create a vintage look yourself with stain. Ā There are lots of options!
- Hot glue & gun–Pay no attention to the tacky glue in the photos below. Ā It did not hold; in the end, I had to add hot glue to each spool. Ā The hot glue has held up for a few years now!
Instructions:
- Plug in your glue gun.
- Wrap the wire around your round object several times until it looks the way you want it. Ā I wrapped mine three times.
- Cut the wire, leaving a tail long enough to be glued securely into your wooden spool.
- Insert the wire tail into the wooden spool.
- Use the glue gun to drop some hot glue into the hole of the spool. Ā Hold the wire in place until the glue has hardened a bit.
- Repeat with remaining spools.
- Leave spools undisturbed until the glue is completely cool and hard.
That’s it! Ā Enjoy your new rustic place card holders.

I bet empty essential oil bottles would be adorable made into place card holders, too!
That’s a great idea, Tammy! š
