Homemade Italian Seasoning Blend

If you cook regularly from scratch, you know how handy it is to have a go-to seasoning blend that works across a variety of dishes. This Homemade Italian Seasoning Blend is one of those staples I always keep stocked in my pantry. It’s easy to make yourself and perfect for recipes like Savory Delicata and Sausage Bake, Sourdough Croutons, and Grain-Free Italian Stuffed Peppers.

Whether you start with dried herbs from your own garden or order in bulk from a trusted source, this blend comes together quickly and adds that familiar, cozy flavor to so many meals.

At my house, one of my kids owns the responsibility of blending homemade seasonings. It’s part of our rhythm. When we get low on Italian Seasoning, Herbal Seasoning Salt, or Ranch Mix, I assign him the task of mixing a new batch. He’s proud of his role, and I love that it’s one more way to include everyone in our homestead life.

We typically quadruple this recipe to keep plenty on hand. It’s one of those blends I reach for often, and having a larger batch means fewer interruptions when I’m in the middle of cooking.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need for your Homemade Italian Seasoning Blend:

  • Dried Basil – sweet and slightly peppery, basil brings warmth and depth.
  • Dried Parsley – mild and grassy, parsley adds a fresh note that balances the stronger herbs.
  • Dried Oregano – earthy and bold, oregano is the backbone of any Italian blend.
  • Dried Rosemary – piney and aromatic, rosemary adds a rustic touch.
  • Dried Thyme – subtle and savory, thyme rounds out the flavor profile beautifully.

Instructions

To make your Homemade Italian Seasoning Blend, simply stir the herbs together in a bowl or pulse them briefly in a mini-food processor or personal blender. I like to blend just enough to break up the rosemary and make the mix more uniform, but not so much that it turns to powder.

My favorite immersion blender comes with a chopping bowl and mini-blade that work perfectly for mixing up seasoning blends.

Store your blend in an airtight container. I typically use tall 12-ounce jelly jars and label them with printed labels from my favorite label maker. It’s practical, tidy, and easy to spot on the pantry shelf.

This blend also makes a lovely gift. For gifting, consider using 4-ounce spice jars or these 1.7-ounce jars (pictured above); they’re just the right size for a thoughtful kitchen treat.

Whether you’re seasoning roasted vegetables, mixing up meatballs, or sprinkling over homemade pizza, this Homemade Italian Seasoning Blend is a simple way to bring flavor and comfort to your kitchen.
