The Sunday Evening Nature Walk

Most Sunday nights when the weather permits, our family can be found exploring a nearby trail or nature spot.

It’s one of our favorite things to do together!  We usually pack a picnic dinner, our DEET-free bug spray and some favorite nature guides and gear–like these magnifying glasses–and head off for adventure.

Recently, we decided to check out Edwards Landing Park in Leesburg, on the recommendation of a friend.  {Thanks, Danny!}  It was a big hit.

Find It

The park is hidden away behind a residential neighborhood, just minutes from the shopping mecca of the outlet mall, Target, Costco, etc., at 901 Powhatan Court in Leesburg, VA.

What we loved about Edwards Landing Park:

  • Covered picnic pavilion–Plenty of room for everyone.
  • Multiple wooded trails–The trails even connect with those of nearby Balls Bluff Park, and the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
  • Plenty of nature–Nuts, feathers, mushrooms, logs, a creek, even “evidence” of horses!
  • Access to the Potomac River–Several trails lead right down to the river.  Be aware that the closer you get to the river, the steeper the trail gets.
  • Porta-potty–A huge plus!
