The Perfect Grass-Fed Beef Burgers: Healthy, Flavorful, and Ready for the Grill
Nothing says summer quite like a sizzling, juicy burger fresh off the grill. A great burger starts with great ingredients, and perfect grass-fed beef burgers deliver unbeatable flavor and health benefits. Not only is local grass-fed beef rich in flavor and essential nutrients, but it also supports sustainable farming and responsible animal care.
Why Grass-Fed Beef?
Grass-fed beef is a game-changer when it comes to quality and nutrition. Unlike grain-fed beef, which can be higher in unhealthy fats, grass-fed beef boasts a leaner profile with a better balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It’s also rich in essential nutrients like vitamin E and antioxidants.
Plus, supporting local farmers who raise their cattle on open pastures means you’re choosing sustainable, humane farming practices that benefit the environment. If you’re local to us in northern Virginia, you can check out our pastured meats available here through our monthly meat CSA program.
The Secret Ingredient: Redmond’s Organic Season Salt
To take your burgers to the next level, try Redmond’s Organic Season Salt—a blend of pure, mineral-rich salt and organic spices that enhance the natural flavor of grass-fed beef. Whether you’re a salt-and-pepper purist or a fan of bold seasonings, this blend ensures every bite is bursting with flavor.

Raw Cheddar: The Ultimate Burger Topping
If you’re topping your burger with cheese, let’s talk raw cheddar.
Unlike processed cheeses, raw cheddar retains its full spectrum of beneficial enzymes and nutrients, making it a healthier option for dairy lovers. The rich, sharp, nutty flavor pairs beautifully with smoky grilled beef, creating a perfect balance of creamy and savory.
You can find raw cheddar at local farms, grocery stores, or health food shops—just be sure to look for high-quality sources that prioritize traditional cheese-making methods.
No Bun? No Problem!
If you’re avoiding gluten—or simply prefer to savor your burger without the distraction of bread—you won’t miss the bun one bit. Piling on toppings makes for a fully loaded, fork-and-knife burger experience. Try:
- Raw Cheddar – Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor.
- Homemade Tomato Jam – Sweet, tangy, and perfect for a burst of freshness.
- Avocado – Creamy and nutrient-dense for a buttery texture.
- Crispy Bacon – Smoky, salty, and irresistibly good. Get my easy method here!
Pair your bunless burger with wholesome sides for a fully satisfying meal. A few of our favorites to enjoy with grass-fed beef burgers:
How to Make the Perfect Grass-Fed Burgers
Start with chilled ground beef—it holds its shape better and makes for a juicier burger. We like to portion it into about three sections per pound, meaning each burger lands around a third of a pound.
Arrange them on a large cutting board in a single layer, then season generously on both sides. Our go-to? Organic Season Salt—it packs just the right punch of flavor without overpowering the beef. If you prefer, simple sea salt and black pepper work too, but trust us, the season salt is a game-changer.
Next, fire up the grill or smoker. We crank ours to 500°F, which gives the burgers a great sear while locking in that rich, beefy goodness. Grill or smoke them for about four minutes per side, and they’ll come out perfectly medium.
Now, if you’re adding cheese (which we highly recommend), wait until the very end and pop a slice of raw smoked cheddar on top. Let the residual heat melt it just enough—creamy, tangy, and the ideal match for perfect grass-fed beef burgers.
Serve them hot with your favorite sides, and if you’ve got leftovers, don’t worry—they store well in the fridge for a few days. To reheat, just toss them in a skillet with a splash of water, cover, and warm them up on low heat.
Pro tip: If you plan to reheat burgers later, hold off on adding the cheese until then—it’ll melt better and taste even fresher.
That’s it! No fuss, no frills—just perfect grass-fed beef burgers with ingredients that shine. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 3 pounds ground beef
- 3 tablespoons season salt

Instructions
- Start with chilled ground beef and form into about 3 balls per pound, or about 1/3 pound per burger. We like to arrange the burgers in a single layer on a large cutting board.
- Sprinkle each burger on both sides with a generous amount of Organic Season Salt. Alternatively, unrefined sea salt and ground black pepper can be used, but we highly recommend our favorite season salt for unbeatable flavor.
- Preheat your grill or smoker. We preheat our smoker to 500 F.
- Grill or smoke the burgers for approximately 4 minutes on each side for medium.
- Optional: at the very end, top each burger with one slice of cheese. We prefer raw, smoked cheddar.
- Serve hot with your choice of sides.
