Although fall is probably my favorite time of year for nature walks, anytime is a good time to get started! Nature walking is not hard. Anyone can do it!
And it can be an enjoyable activity for all, if you keep a few simple tips in mind. If you’d like to start enjoying the great outdoors more with your kids, please read on. I have a few tips to share…
Tip #1. Find a Buddy
Finding a nature walk buddy is one of the best ways to incorporate regular, successful nature walks into your life. It’s like anything else–exercising, eating healthfully, reading, hobbies, etc. If you can do it with a friend, you’re more likely to stick with it.
For our family, that’s meant connecting with another homeschooling family with children about the same age. The kids got along well, and so did the moms.
It’s interesting to note that our friends are a family of three girls, while we have three boys. At first glance, it might seem an awkward pairing. True, the girls aren’t fond of bugs and are quite a bit less rambunctious than my guys.
But they love each other–we often refer to them as cousins–and it gives me the opportunity to train some chivalry into my boys. At least that’s my hope!
The kids absolutely love their time together, the moms get to socialize and we all get outside for fresh air, nature discoveries and exercise. It’s a win-win-win!
