Adventures in Nashville: Music, Nature, and Southern Charm
Nashville has a magic all its own—the heartbeat of country music, the hum of a bustling downtown, and the serenity of nature nestled just beyond the city’s bright lights. Over the years, Greg and I—both with and without the boys—have enjoyed some unforgettable adventures in Nashville, from dancing the night away on Broadway to paddling down the Cumberland River into downtown Nashville.
If you’re planning a trip to this iconic Tennessee destination, here are a few must-do experiences that have made our visits extra special.
Dive into Music History
It’s impossible to visit Nashville without soaking up its rich musical heritage. The Grand Ole Opry is legendary, a place where the biggest stars have graced the stage for decades. Seeing a live performance here is nothing short of magical, with an energy in the air that oozes classic country music.
Another must-visit is the Ryman Auditorium, the “Mother Church of Country Music.” Stepping inside is like walking through history itself, and if you’re lucky enough to catch a show, the acoustics will leave you in awe.
The Country Music Hall of Fame is another favorite, offering an incredible journey through the evolution of country music. The exhibits showcasing legendary artists, iconic instruments, and stunning memorabilia make it a treasure trove for music lovers.
No visit to Music City is complete without a stop at the Country Music Walk of Fame, located in downtown Nashville near the Country Music Hall of Fame. This star-studded sidewalk honors the legends who shaped country music, from iconic performers to influential songwriters. It’s a great spot to take a leisurely walk, snap photos with your favorite artists’ plaques, and reminisce about the impact of country music across generations.
Broadway: A Feast for the Senses
There’s nothing quite like strolling down Broadway, where neon lights glow and the sound of live music spills into the streets. We love popping into restaurants and bars where talented musicians perform every night—it’s an experience that feels as authentic as it gets. Whether you’re tapping your foot to an impromptu bluegrass set or hearing a soulful country ballad, the talent here is undeniable.
Shopping for boots on Broadway is also a must—because nothing says Nashville quite like a brand-new pair of cowboy boots! Downtown Nashville offers a variety of boot vendors, from Boot Barn to Tecovas to French’s, and more, all located on or near Broadway.
Outdoor Adventures: Kayaking & Hiking
When we wanted a break from the high-energy downtown scene, we took to the outdoors. Kayaking on the Cumberland River was an incredible way to see Nashville from a new perspective. Paddling toward the skyline was a unique experience—one of those moments that sticks with you long after the trip ends. It’s one of our favorite adventures in Nashville, blending nature and cityscape into a single unforgettable journey.
For hiking, Radnor Lake State Park is a hidden gem. The peaceful trails surrounded by trees and wildlife offer a serene escape just minutes from the city. It’s the perfect spot to recharge before heading back into town.
Art, Food, and Local Finds
Our visit to the Frist Art Museum was a fun surprise. We were lucky enough to catch their Farm to Table in Impressionism exhibit, which combined stunning works of art with an exploration of food culture. What a unique and beautifully curated experience!
Shopping in The Gulch is another favorite activity, with its boutique stores offering everything from artisan goods to stylish clothing. It’s the perfect way to take home a little piece of Nashville.
Treasure Hunting at the Nashville Flea Market
If you love discovering one-of-a-kind treasures, the Nashville Flea Market is an absolute must. Held at the Fairgrounds, this market is one of the largest and most diverse in the country. Here you’ll find everything from vintage wares to handmade goods.
Whether you’re searching for antique furniture, quirky collectibles, or artisan crafts, strolling through the flea market is an adventure in itself. If you’re looking for a unique Nashville souvenir, this is the place to find it!
No matter what brings you to Nashville, you’ll find a city full of stories, rhythm, and unforgettable moments. Have you been? What were your favorite adventures in Nashville?
